Clubs and sports
A whole world outsider the classroom
Canaan Schools have a range of clubs and sports that help students explore their interests outside the classroom, meet new friends, and build on their school experience.
Team sports
Our athletic teams are open to all students who maintain academic eligibility, and are dedicated to teaching good sportsmanship, ethical behavior, and genuine concern and respect for others. In addition to learning the skills and mechanics of their chosen athletic programs, students are taught the value of honesty, trustworthiness, integrity, responsibility, fairness, and teamwork. We have teams in the following sports:
Cross Country
Soccer
Basketball
Softball
Baseball
Chess Club
Clubs and other programs
Our wide range of clubs introduce students to new avenues of learning, exploration, and growth in areas such as business, government, agriculture, outdoorsmanship, and more. Clubs meet during and after school and are facilitated by teachers, staff members, and members of the community. Students wishing to form new clubs are encouraged to present their ideas to faculty or staff members.
Students are also eligible to participate in various State-sponsored programs such as the Governors Institute of Vermont, Upward Bound, VSAC Gear Up, and Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership.
